As part of the project Safeguarding Sudan’s Living Heritage against conflict and climate change, we are creating a new photo archive. Professional and semi-professional photographers are invited to submit high quality images of living heritage in Sudan, both recent and vintage, that can be used for research and publication.

The immediate purpose of the archive is to supply the SSLH project with a portfolio of images. We are working on an inclusive heritage awareness campaign in Sudan that will be printed on posters and circulated on social media, including Instagram. The message is ‘Our Culture, Our Sudan.’ Individual images will have related sub-titles. For the three-month duration of the campaign, we will try to notify photographers of where their work is being shown.

In the longer term we are helping develop the process of documenting Sudan’s living heritage, particularly were threatened by conflict and climate change. Powerful images can speak louder than words. We hope this collection will touch Sudanese people everywhere as well as establish a unique and important archive.
